The Hardest Things to Paint in Watercolour

When I was presented with the task of painting the sea for this commissioned painting of a glorious bay in Cornwall, I thought about how do I capture its beautiful translucent effect, how can I captivate my client and make them want to dive into the painting and help them to bring back those treasured moments they wished to be reminded of when they stare into my painting. The answer, I tried to imagine being there in that moment with the client, taking in the colours, the smells, the feel of the wind against my face and the warmth from the hot summer's sun. I like to hear the story of that moment from my client too, when, why, and where so I too can visualise that moment in time when my client had that experience. With each brush stroke, I was able to put together that moment like a jigsaw puzzle, each stroke adding another piece to the puzzle.
